Code of Conduct for Our Students

Leyte Christian College – Rules and Regulations for Students

General School Rules:

1.  All students will receive a monthly allowance during their time at Leyte Christian College, provided that this money is not used in the pursuit of vices or other immoral or dishonest activity (see item #10 below).  This allowance is subject to, and totally dependent on, your grades.  Students earning high grades will receive high allowance, while those students receiving low grades will receive low allowance.  We reward good grades.  Students therefore are encouraged to study hard!  LCC also reserves the right to refuse allowance to any student who repeatedly fails classes.  Do not expect a “free ride” and free meals and lodging if you do not work hard in your classes.  Also, do not ask for any “advance” on your allowance; it will not be given.  No exceptions.

2.  The daily devotional service (chapel hour) is designed to help bring the students into a closer relationship with God.  Thus, all students are expected to attend the daily devotional service each day, and to be on time.  Failure to do so will result in fines for each absence or tardiness, as dictated by the SBO, to be taken from the student’s own monthly allowance.  Boys are also expected to help in the leading of the devotional (song-leading, prayers, etc.).  Please take this responsibility seriously, and do not laugh or make funny faces at your friends while you are leading the worship.  Worship is serious!

3.  English is the medium of instruction at LCC.  Learning to speak better English will improve your ability to preach, and to communicate and interact with the world around you.  Thus, you are expected and required to speak English in class and in the daily devotional.  You are also required to speak English to your Instructors during the school day hours (even outside of the classroom).  This will be closely monitored.  Fines will result for those refusing to speak English consistently to Instructors, in the amount of five pesos per occurrence.

4.  Please observe proper hygiene.  “Cleanliness is next to godliness.”  A clean campus, cafeteria, comfort rooms, etc. will result in fewer sicknesses.  Please dispose of your trash properly.  Throwing your trash in the campus grounds is an insult to our school and our supporters.  There are trash cans provided for your trash.

5.  Please also wash your clothing regularly.  We don’t want “smelly” classrooms.  You are also expected at all times to observe proper and respectful clothing style and dress which will serve to indicate your devotion to cleanliness.  Clean haircuts are required.  Also, no beard or unshaven face and no earrings or painted nails (or other feminine styles) for boys.

6.  The dress code will be lenient.  However, no slippers are allowed in class or in the daily devotional.  Boys must wear long pants and polo shirt with a collar (no T-shirt or short pants).  Girls are expected to dress modestly as well (no revealing clothing).  Also, no “grunge” or “gothic” look.  Friday will be a “casual dress day” as long as this privilege is not abused.  On this casual day you may wear T-shirts.

7.  Please do not bring your cell phones into class, or if you do, please turn them off during class times.  It is disrespectful to the Instructor (and also distracting) if students are allowed to talk or text during the lecture time.  So please leave your cell phone off during class time (and also the daily devotional).

8.  Every student is required to spend at least two (2) hours of study time per week in the library.  This is to ensure that you are giving proper attention to your class assignments, etc.  Be sure to record your time with the Librarian or Staff on duty.  Any student who fails to meet this weekly requirement will be subject to a fine of 50 pesos per infraction for each week that the requirement is not met.  This will be strictly imposed.

9.  You will be expected to perform your studies honestly.  No cheating, looking on the exam paper of another student, etc.  Also, no plagiarism.  This is a Christian learning environment, and all learning here should be the honest way and the “old” way – thru hard work.  Any student who is caught cheating or performing his or her assignments in a dishonest manner will be expelled from LCC immediately. The reputation of our school will be adversely affected if we allow dishonesty in the classroom.  We cannot allow this to happen; therefore, no exceptions.

10.  Immoral vices are strictly prohibited.  We hope you will behave your best as Christian young people at LCC, since this is a Christian institution.  God expects us to abide by His law and to live upright lives in imitation of Christ (see 1 Cor. 11:1). We may forgive your transgressions, but in order to set a proper example for the other students we cannot be lenient with the consequences.  Even though people may be forgiven, there are still consequences to pay.  Thus, any student who is caught abusing alcoholic beverages or tobacoo, participating in immoral sexual behavior, using illegal drugs, watching porn movies or porn internet websites, using bad language (profanity, green jokes, etc.), or any other outright immoral behavior will be expelled from LCC immediately.  No exceptions.

11.  Stealing is also wrong (Exod. 20:15; Eph. 4:28). Therefore, any student who is caught stealing the property of another will be dealt with severely.  Do not take anything that does not belong to you, such as any property of your dorm mates, library books which belong to LCC, etc.  Stealing is a serious offense.  Anyone caught stealing will be expelled immediately.  No exceptions.

12.  Threatening or assaulting fellow students (even verbal abuse) is also not allowed, for any reason, and will be dealt with severely.  No quarreling.  If you have any complaint against a fellow student, please bring the matter to the attention of the LCC Staff or Administration.  Any students who engage in fist-fighting or other hurtful conduct will be expelled.

13.  The Administration of LCC reserves the right to deny enrollment to any student for any reason, provided we give you official notice of the reason for this denial.  LCC does not practice discrimination against anyone on the basis of gender, national or ethnic affiliation, age, or religion.

14.  Any Muslim who applies as a student at LCC must be willing to swear (by his holy book) that terrorism or any violence in the name of religion is evil, and be willing to publicly denounce terrorism as a cowardly act, before he will be considered for admission to LCC.

15.  All students are required to cooperate fully with all LCC Staff, at all times.  Also, you must cooperate with the Student Captains who are assigned to monitor student activity.  The Student Captains have responsibility for the dorm, cafeteria and classroom cleaning schedules.  They also may impose fines as allowed and dictated by the SBO or by the Administration of LCC.  Any student who does not cooperate fully will be warned, and if this warning is not heeded will be subject to expulsion from LCC.

16.  LCC is not responsible for the fares of any student who plans to go home (for any reason), or who may be compelled to go home by expulsion for committing a serious offense.  Save your allowance for any fares, if possible.  Also, any prospective students who travel to LCC, without first passing entrance exam and submitting all requirements, are not guaranteed a place as a student.  You are liable for your own fare if you are not admitted as a student.  Please do not expect LCC to shoulder the burden of your fares.

17.  In case of severe sickness, students must be sent home immediately or to their nearest family relatives, or responsible guardians.  The school is not responsible for any of your medical care.  We may agree to help you with a medical emergency but only if funds are available and we are able to help.  Please do not expect LCC to shoulder all (or any) of your medical expenses.  If you, as a student, have special needs related to a medical condition, for example, allergic and dietary requirements, please make sure these needs are known to the Administration upon your arrival.

18.  The LCC kitchen/ facilities are here for your benefit.  We hope to provide quality, nutritious meals for you.  Please show respect for the kitchen/ cafeteria facilities by helping to take care of them.  If we are negligent or irresponsible with these blessings, or if students frequently abuse the system, the LCC Administration will have no choice but to close the kitchen and force the students to prepare their own meals.  We do not want this to happen, so please cooperate and help us to take care of these wonderful blessings provided for our benefit.

19.  The library at LCC is one of the better ones in the entire brotherhood.  Even some preaching schools in the U.S. do not have the resources that our LCC library contains.  They are here for your benefit and for you to obtain knowledge.  Please do not abuse the books or other resources.  They are precious to us and many of them were obtained at great cost.  Any students who are seen willfully or intentionally destroying/damaging library books or resources will have the full weight of discipline extended to them, including expulsion and perhaps even the filing of criminal mischief complaints with the local police.

20.  LCC has its own multi-cab passenger van and may be able to add additional service vehicles in the future.  While these vehicles are intended for the full use of the school, please do not expect that these are for your personal use or needs that may arise.  We will do our best to help in any needs but these vehicles primarily are for the needs and use of the school.  Also, please exercise caution while riding in these vehicles.  We want you to be safe.  No hanging from the back or riding on the back step or on the top.

21.  Students at LCC are not allowed to enter any LCC office or staff work room without permission.  Please do not assume that you are welcome there, as there may be some teachers who are grading exams/assignments, or other staff who are handling personal and sensitive information.

22.  You are expected to faithfully attend worship services along with all other LCC students and teachers and staff.  Any student who does not attend worship services regularly will first be warned.  If this warning is not obeyed and absences continue, the student will be sent home.  Please be faithful in your service to God.

23.  Please do not expect LCC to provide your personal needs such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.  These should be purchased from your own pocket or allowance fund.  Also, notebooks, pens and pencils are your own personal responsibility.  Occasionally, LCC will be blessed with supplies from supporters, etc., but they are not to be expected or demanded.  Generally, you are responsible for all of your own needs and supplies.

24.  Please make sure to always practice good communication while attending LCC.  We admit we are not a perfect school.  But we are trying hard to improve.  If you find some aspect about our school or system which could be improved, please make a suggestion to us.  Please don’t go back home and say negative things about LCC and help to spread rumors and other kind of negative talk; instead, help us make LCC a better place!  We can improve LCC if all students and teachers stick together and communicate and suggest ways to improve.  LCC does not belong to anyone; it belongs to the brotherhood.  If we all work together to make it better, our brotherhood will be blessed by our efforts in this for many years to come.  Please help us by communicating!

General Classroom Rules:

1.  All full-time students must attend all of their enrolled subjects.  No exceptions.  You are not here to play, but to study.  If you must miss your class for any reason, even sickness, you are expected to communicate with the Instructor of the class as soon as possible regarding the reason why you were absent (or tardy).  Please try to let the Instructor know BEFORE the class that you cannot attend.

2.  All LCC Instructors have the right to enforce classroom discipline at all times.  He or she may require any type of reasonable cooperation from the students.  An Instructor may, for example, require a seating chart or a seating arrangement which should be fully complied with at all times.  Please obey the Instructor.  Any student who shows any form of disrespect or dishonor to an Instructor, or who disobeys an Instructor (or the Staff) for whatever reason, will be dealt with severely, up to and including possible expulsion from LCC.  Please take this warning very seriously.  This will be your ONLY warning.

3.  Absences due to unnecessary reasons such as oversleeping will not be tolerated.  Excused absences are allowed only when students are suffering from a verifiable sickness or involved in some church-related activity, etc.  Other examples of excused absences may be a family-related emergency, or assisting with some school-related need or emergency.  Those students who repeatedly miss their classes or are tardy will receive verbal warnings.  If this does not solve the problem, the student may be sent home.

4.  You are expected to complete your class assignments on time before coming to class.  It is not allowed to use the classroom time for completing of other assignments, etc.  Also, strictly no sleeping in class.  This has been tolerated in the past but will no longer be allowed.  Those who violate this rule will be warned, and if the warning is not heeded, they will be subject to expulsion.

5.  Tardiness.  Instructors may impose penalties for continual unexcused tardiness and absences in the class.  Please be responsible for your own time and schedules.  Extreme and continual tardiness to class will not be tolerated.

6.  Always bring your Bible and notes in class.  This is for instruction purposes and for your own benefit.  This has not been strictly enforced in the past but now will be expected of all students, at all times.  If you are seen without your Bible and notes in any class, you will be subject to fines.

7.  Please also show respect to your Instructor and fellow students by not disrupting the class by, for example, talking during lecture, etc.  Also, please respect the speaker or leader in the daily devotional (Chapel) by giving him your full attention and not talking.  What does it say about our commitment to God if we talk and laugh during worship time or when His Word is being read?  Please be serious about your responsibilities before God and your responsibilities as a student of LCC.

8.  Please also minimize leaving the class for things such as C.R. visits, or spitting, etc.  This privilege has been abused repeatedly in the past.  It is not respectful.  You are allowed to leave the class for such purposes only if it is ABSOLUTELY necessary.  Instructors may, if this privilege continues to be abused, impose fines or even give additional assignments to students who cannot refrain from leaving the classroom.  Please do not abuse our trust in you by repeatedly leaving the classroom

General Dormitory Rules:

1.  While you are at LCC, your residence will be in one of our dormitories.  Please be responsible enough to maintain all the dorms clean at all times, and free from any form of damage.  This property is provided thru the sacrifices of others; therefore we should all do our best to prevent any negative kind of feedbacks from other dorm users or housemates as well.  Thus, any student who willfully or intentionally damages (or attempts to damage) the dorm, or any LCC property for that matter, for whatever reason, will be immediately expelled from school.  There is no reason for you to willfully attempt to damage the property of someone else.  This is a serious matter.  Take care of the dorms!  This is the only warning you will receive.

2.  Cleaning schedules.  There are assigned dorm captains and sergeants for each dorm who will be responsible to make decisions regarding cleaning schedules.  Please cooperate fully with them.  Any student who does not cooperate will be subject to fines.

3.  Please help us to conserve energy and water.  Be sure to turn off the lights and faucets when they are not in use.  Utility services are expensive.  It is not our wish to force the students to share in this expense, but if this responsibility will be neglected, we might have no choice but to charge you for it in the future.  So please practice smart conservation.

4.  Please also be responsible of the furnishings provided by the school, such as beds, other kinds of furniture, mosquito netting, etc.  The school reserves the right to take back any provided furnishings if it is abused, taken for granted, or if it is damaged in any way.

5.  Aside from full-time students at LCC, no one is allowed to use the dorm or occupy or take up residence at the dorm, at any time or for any reason.  Visitors such as family or friends, etc., who come to see you must be met and/or entertained at the church/school building or some other place outside the dorm.  This is for your protection and for the protection of the school.  Please do not violate our trust in you by using the dorms for visits or any other unauthorized purposes.

6.  Students are required to strictly observe the 10:00 pm curfew each night.  All students are expected to be at their respective dorms on, or before, the said time.  No going out after the curfew.  Violators will be subject to fines and expulsion if this habit continues.

7.  If you need to go outside, or downtown, for any reason, please make sure that it will not interfere with your class schedules or violate the curfew hours.  And please do not go to places which you are not familiar with, for safety sake.  This is for your protection.  Your parents are entrusting your safety to LCC while you are here, and we do not want to violate this trust.

8.  Please respect the personal privacy of your fellow students and/or dorm mates.  Do not use or take anything which belongs to your fellow students or dorm mates without their proper permission, in order to avoid any misunderstanding.  Please be willing to yield your own freedoms or rights, on occasion, for the sake of friendship, harmony, and safety.

9.  Please minimize making any unnecessary noise, including loud music, use of cellular phones, etc.  This type of activity can cause friendships to suffer, as well as impede good study habits for successful students at LCC.  All LCC students are required to respect all of their fellow students and their right to happiness, to privacy, and to study and to sleep, especially during the night time.  Let us all try to make friends, not enemies, of our classmates and dorm mates.

10.  You are each liable for your own belongings.  The school is not responsible to replace any lost, stolen, or damaged valuables or possessions of students, for whatever reason.  Please exercise proper care of your things while you are with us.  Lock them away or else keep them in some other secured place or person while you are studying or in class, etc.

12.  Boys/girls policy.  LCC is a place of learning, not a place of “loose morality” or promiscuous behavior.  Male students and visitors are not allowed to enter, or even to visit, the girl’s dorm (and vice versa).  Visitors of the opposite sex should only be entertained at the school facilities or not at all.  Thus, any students who are caught violating these rules of boys/girls policy, or otherwise engaging in inappropriate relationships, or inappropriate and extreme public displays of affection, will be dealt with severely, including possible expulsion from LCC.  The Staff understands, of course, that students may, as a matter of human nature, be attracted to each other and may even fall in love.  You are not prohibited to announce your feelings for each other and to care for each other in this way, but please refrain from exhibiting inappropriate behavior which is dangerous and which may set a bad example for your fellow students.

    To God be the glory!
    Good day to LCC administration.
I’m Mernie A.Sabanal 23..My cousin Benben Aspacio was a student at LCC, and during his vacation here in Negros, he told me lots of good things about LCC.My cousin asked me if I’m interested to study in an institution which tackles the good news of God and at the same time helped their students to choose the right track to serve God.I told him I’m not financially stable and I doubt if I could study by any means and that my parents also can’t afford to send us for college studies.A couple of years after my high school graduation last 2004, I got a chanced to study a 2 year course in Makati as a working student but unfortunately I wasnt abled to continue due to super hectic time and work schedules and financially also.At that time I’m sad,but I know God allows it to happen for some reason.
Lately my cousin Ben texted me if I’m interested then to study at LCC and finally I said “if God will allow” I will..
Could it be possible for me to study at LCC? How?
May the good Lord continue to bless the people behind the good works of LCC..Thank you for spending your time reading this looong post of mine..
